Salary Available for Church Planter
Sometimes opportunity knocks, and sometimes it rips down the door.
We are not complaining, of course, but it has happened again. Just three months ago we made a major announcement. We put out the word that we have a full salary for someone to assemble a team and start our next prevailing church. How is that going? Until a bit more water is under the bridge, here is what we’re allowed to say: The ball is rolling. Progress is underway. The chicken is about to escape from the shell. Stand by.
To repeat myself, it has happened again.
“I have talked with some friends,” a Mission Catalyst donor recently told me on the phone. “And we are ready. When we read "The Pivotal Design" we knew we had to do something. And when we read about the people who made the offer for a church in their city, we knew we wanted to make it happen where we live, too.”
What is the offer? A full salary for someone to assemble a team and start a prevailing church. (Yes, it includes a health plan and retirement.)
One salary? At first.
Where? “Tell them that they will live in one of the fastest-growing regions of the country with an ideal living environment. When you find some outstanding people who are not just tire-kickers, give them the details.”
There are some conditions, of course, and the bar is high. First, you are breathless about the Pivotal Design. You realize that, no matter how talented you are, a prevailing church is always beyond your grasp until the right team coalesces. Second, you have an impressive leadership track record in the church or in the secular arena. Third, you can motivate others to join you. Fourth, you and your team will attend Planting Team Assessment. Fifth, well, four is enough for now.
“We have some amazing families ready and eager to support the right leaders.” His words could not have sounded more serious. “Shoot out a letter or two, contact some people you know, and let’s see what God does.”
We are in earnest prayer and full-on search mode for the right person to build a team and devote the rest of his life to creating a prevailing church. The rest of his life? Yes. Because any vision that doesn’t require your entire life isn’t a vision; it’s just a thought.
